Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend and it is considered the unofficial end of summer in the United States.
As the unofficial end of summer we might find ourselves going to the lake for one last time of the year. Or, we might find ourselves celebrating the beginning of college football season by going to Hogs game or other college game or just watching the great opening weekend match-ups on TV. These and many more traditions we look forward to our last long weekend before our Fall traditions begin. But if you are not out of town over the Labor Day weekend, you are invited to come to church on Sunday. If you are out of town this weekend, come next Sunday! This is a good time of year to begin again.
In September we celebrate new beginnings for our fall programs and new classes in Sunday School also. It may be a time to join a Sunday morning life group, or Building Better Moms, or Tuesday morning Women’s Bible Study, or Wednesday evening Disciple 1 or Disciple 3 study groups. Or, come for choirs and hand bells or bring your children to participate in our children’s programs. Or, just come back to worship from your vacation time. It is a time for a fresh start or beginning again.
We are encouraged to remember our traditions include the joy of joining together in worship in all of these and many other ways at Jacksonville FUMC. This is a time when your family, coworkers and neighbors may also want to begin again after their summer vacations. While you may know that you are invited to come, they may not have a place to go and all they may need is a personal invitation from you. Won’t you make a commitment to begin again and invite someone to join you for the Fall Programs of 2018 at Jacksonville FUMC.
Happy Labor Day and with the Love of Christ, you are invited to be seen around the church!

BTW – The Seekers Sunday morning Life Group is launching a new Adult Bible Study that will be going through many of the stories in Genesis – the original “beginning!” No knowledge required. After all, it’s time for a fresh start! You are invited to join us on Sunday mornings at 8:45 in the Emmaus Room of the Connection Center.
